The latest vintage of Chateau de Fontenille Bordeaux Clairet 2022 is now in stock. Good news for those who like a deeper Rose/light red with very soft tannins with their Turkey dinners! As many of you will know from drinking previous vintages, an extra long 3 day maceration, ageing on fine lees makes this a wine of real depth and character. Also for the many fans of Stephane Defraine’s famous Bordeaux whites, the 2022 Fontenille Entre-Deux-Mers also arrived on the same pallet, so is available now.
A new wine on our list is a new Lalande de Pomerol wine from the 2020 vintage, that Patrick Merle is making at Chateau des Moines. This is 100% Malbec aged in clay amphora rather than in oak barrels – very unusual and only to be made in the best years from a one hectare plot of Malbec vines.
Patrick believes that the resulting wine is fresher and more mineral than ageing in oak. This 2020 is just starting it’s drinking life so will benefit from some aeration if opening in early 2024!
