We all know what it is, few of us have driven one and even fewer will ever own one. It is all style, elegance and pure class and stands out from the crowd. Yes, Roussanne is the Ferrari of the white wine grapes from the Rhone Valley. So difficult to grow that many vignerons do not bother. A 100% Roussanne varietal wine is both rare and expensive — but get it right and wow! This limited-edition wine of just 1500 bottles is made by our friends at Dom. Vintur in Ventoux (see entry under Le Gentleman for more information). Organic, naturally fermented and with minimal use of sulphur, the wine spent 2 years maturing in oak barrels and egg-shaped vats before release.
Golden yellow with a nose of floral, honey and toasted notes underlined with a rich aromatic complexity. In the mouth big and rich but working well alongside the freshness and acidity that is naturally Roussanne – elusive and intriguing just like that Ferrari again!
A wine that will continue to develop and surprise you for many years to come, A gastro / food wine that is not for beginners but for those that have progressed. A voluptuous wine for voluptuous food or for those moments when one opens the door into a dream-world.
